September 13
– December 20
"Iku Nagai", a solo exhibition of paintings never before shown, opens in the Peninsula Museum of Art's Decker Galleries on Sept. 13 (through Dec. 20). Born and educated in Japan, Nagai and her family settled in San Mateo County more than 50 years ago. She formed the group "Imagination" with fellow Japanese artists in the '60s and adopted cubism as a means of breaking away from traditional painting.
Eventually Nagai created her own synthesis of historic Japanese aesthetics and contemporary genres. The exhibition at the Peninsula Museum of Art features her most recent body of work, paintings created since her 1999 retrospective at the Triton Museum of Art.
Chinese, Japanese, Indian, Korean, Southeast Asian, Himalayan & Central Asian, Islamic & Middle Eastern
The Peninsula Museum of Art enhances the community and enriches lives through art and education, featuring outstanding artists of the Greater Bay Area with exhibitions, art classes for children and adults, special events, and working artist studios.
